Samuel was born in Seneca County, Ohio on December 20, 1851.  Sam was the fourth child of George and Caroline Marshall.  Sam married his first cousin Sophia Mary Marshall Marshall. Sophia was born December 10, 1854, also in Seneca County, Ohio.  Twin to Mary S. (believed to have died as an infant).  Sam and Sophia had four children, Curtis, Edna, Glenn and Laurel.

Samuel died in May 14, 1934 at t he age of 82. Sophia died in May 6, 1909 at the age of 54.  Both are buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, Michigan.
