John is listed as being born in Bavaria, Germany (Likely Baden Baden) in 1833.  This is the same year that his parents, George and Elizabethia Marcheal sailed to the U.S.  It is not clear how that happened. John married DOCITHA OSTROTH on February 14, 1853 in Crawford County, Ohio..  Ohio records show Docitha's last name as OSTERSTROAT who also was born in Bavaria, Germany.  We believe the family changed their surname to Ostroth when the family moved to Michigan.  Also, we believe that Docitha was known as Dorothy after moving to Michigan. Plus, Docitha changed her given name to Dorothy on the 1870 census. John, along with his father and two brothers, George Jr. and Jacob moved farming operations to Maple Grove, Michigan about 1853.  Docitha (Dorothy) and family moved to Michigan around 1866.

Of their 10 children, only David and Harvey were born in Michigan.
